Monoblock solutions for commercial cold rooms

The demand for simple solutions dedicated to small and medium-sized cold rooms, suitable both for food service and food retail segment, is rapidly increasing in the refrigeration market.

The entry into force of new regulations is pushing manufacturers to select low GWP gases, leading them to prefer natural refrigerants such as R290 over HFCs and HFOs.

Considering that the adoption of CO2 as refrigerant in centralised systems (condensing units or compressors rack with remote evaporators) requires advanced skills, a modular approach to monoblock units is preferential in situations where there’s a lack of expert technicians or when additional cold rooms are required on existing sites, and integrating them into the system is complex.

In this context, most manufacturers are working to re-design their monoblock units, so as to:

  • Comply with the new regulations, possibly also improving unit energy efficiency
  • Simplify installation and maintenance
  • Keep offering competitive solutions with an upgraded appearance

iJF for monoblock units

IJF is the commercial family of the IJ control platform, suitable for food preservation applications.

Exploiting the flexibility offered by the IJ platform, IJF perfectly suits the design requirements of commercial monoblock units for cold rooms.

Being certified for applications with flammable gases (e.g. IEC 60335-2-89), IJF can help simplify the certification process for the adoption of the A3 and A2L gases, supporting OEMs in the transition to low GWP refrigerants.

The wide range of controllers and HMIs (small, large, XL), with both panel and split options and selectable and configurable I/Os, offers each manufacturer the ability to select the configuration that best matches the design requirements of both wall- and ceiling-mounted monoblock units.

Further options can be selected in addition to the main features, enabling the possibility to drive variable-speed compressors (VCC) or modulating devices (e.g. EC fans), control ambient humidity or synchronise different units in the same network communicating via serial line.

Advanced connectivity, easier integration

The IJF range features advanced NFC and Bluetooth® connectivity, combined with CAREL’s APPLICA and CONTROLLA apps to simplify installation, fine tuning and maintenance.
This advanced connectivity, combined with a clear overview of unit status, offers the possibility to continuously monitor the cold room, thus guaranteeing service continuity for optimal food preservation. Moreover, profiled access to the settings means the visibility of critical parameters can be filtered, preventing any unwanted tampering with the configuration.

The selection of the built-in BMS port enables the possibility of remote monitoring of the units via a local supervisor, such as the Boss family range, or cloud solutions such as RED Control
